Step 1: Cleanse Gently
Wash your face twice a day, in the morning and evening, using a gentle cleanser. Avoid harsh scrubbing, very hot water, and rough towels because these can irritate the skin. After cleansing, gently pat your face dry with a clean towel.
Step 2: Use Acne-Friendly Ingredients
Choose products labeled non-comedogenic, meaning they are designed to be less likely to clog pores. Ingredients such as salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can help with acne for some people, but introduce acne treatments gradually and follow the product directions to reduce irritation.
Step 3: Keep Your Skin Moisturized
Even acne-prone skin needs moisture. Use a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer to help maintain the skin barrier. Over-drying the skin can lead to irritation and may make your routine harder to tolerate.
Step 4: Protect Your Skin and Avoid Picking
Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen during the daytime, especially when using acne treatments that may increase sensitivity. Try not to squeeze or pick pimples, as this can increase irritation and may contribute to lingering marks. If acne is painful, severe, or does not improve with consistent basic care, consider speaking with a dermatologist.
