How to Prevent Acne Breakouts

  1. Cleanse gently twice a day — Wash your face in the morning and before bed. Avoid harsh scrubbing.
  2. Use a non-comedogenic moisturizer — Keeping your skin moisturized can reduce irritation and dryness.
  3. Apply sunscreen daily — Choose an oil-free, non-comedogenic SPF 30+ sunscreen.
  4. Use salicylic acid — A 0.5–2% product can help unclog pores and prevent new breakouts.
  5. Consider benzoyl peroxide — It helps reduce acne-causing bacteria and can prevent inflammatory pimples. Start with a low concentration if your skin is sensitive.
  6. Don’t pick or squeeze pimples — This increases inflammation and can lead to dark marks and scarring.
  7. Keep acne-causing triggers in check — Avoid heavy/oily skincare or hair products, change pillowcases regularly, and keep things that touch your face reasonably clean.
  8. Stay consistent — Acne prevention usually takes 6–8 weeks or longer to show noticeable improvement. If acne is painful, severe, or leaving scars, consider seeing a dermatologist.
