Cleanse gently — Use a mild, non-scrubbing cleanser morning and night.
Wear sunscreen every morning — SPF 30–50+ helps prevent marks from getting darker and is one of the most important steps.
Use vitamin C in the morning — It can gradually brighten uneven pigmentation.
Add niacinamide — A 4–5% niacinamide product can help with discoloration and overall skin tone.
Use a retinoid at night — Adapalene or another retinoid can improve acne and gradually help pigmentation. Start 2–3 nights per week and increase slowly if tolerated.
Consider azelaic acid — Around 10–15% can be particularly useful for acne-related dark marks and active acne.
Don’t pick or squeeze pimples — Repeated irritation can create more persistent marks and scars.
Be consistent and patient — Dark marks often take several weeks to months to noticeably fade. Introduce only one new active at a time to reduce irritation.
